It is centered on the challenge of survival on a zombie-infested open world island with a major emphasis on melee combat. It was originally announced at E3 2006,but was pushed back to 2011. It was released on September 6 in North America and will be released on September 9 elsewhere.

  Plot:

The game is set in the Palms Resort, in fictional Banoi, located off the coast of Papua New Guinea. Your character wakes up after a long night of partying at the Banoi hotel, only to find the lights off and an emergency broadcast system guiding him/her out of their hotel room. Once you leave your room, you head through a hotel room to get around some luggage carts in the hall and make head out to the balcony. After looking out at the view, two zombies suddenly fall from the balcony above as your character watches. You then open a nearby elevator hatch and climb in. Just as you get in, the elevator cables snap and send the elevator flying down, stopping momentarily on a zombie-infested floor before hitting bottom. Your character recovers and hears a voice asking them if they are experiencing any health problems

  Plot:

 On July 4th, 2011, the offices of the Drug Enforcement Administration are bombed by unknown assailants. Assistant Deputy Director Shane Dickson enlists Ben McCall, along with FBI agent Kimberly Evans and DEA agent Eddie Guerra. to track down the culprits, with the Mendoza Cartel and Antonio Alvarez as prime suspects. She informs them of the late Patrick Stone, who was investigating the Cartel up until his death in the bombings. They are also tasked with protecting Stone's only daughter, Jessica, a key informant in the investigation, whom they place under witness protection. Kim reveals that the Cartel has been purchasing military-grade hardware from an unknown source. The trio proceeds to strike at the Cartel through their distributors -- domestic street gangs, such as the Araña and the Rolling 50’s. They burn cannabis fields, raid a gang house, disrupt a sex trafficking ring, and intercept a large shipment of cash following an extensive car chase and gunfight. At Eddie's behest, the team decides to move Jessica to a different safe house across the city in a car driven by one Sergeant Dempsey. Almost immediately, they are intercepted by Cartel gangsters and chased along the freeway until their car is hit by a semi truck. Dempsey is killed, but the rest manage to escape in stolen transportation. Realizing that someone let slip their plans, they resolve to trust no one -- not even each other -- until their mission is complete.

 Gameplay:

The player assumes the role of various characters during the single-player campaign, changing perspectives throughout the progression of the story.Each level is a mission that features a series of objectives that are displayed on the heads up display, which marks the direction and distance towards and from such objectives. Damage to the player is shown by blood shown on the screen. The player's health regenerates as time passes. Tasks vary in their requirements, having the player arrive at a particular checkpoint, eliminate enemies in a specified location, stand their ground to defend an objective, or plant explosive charges on an enemy installation. The player is accompanied by friendly troops who cannot be issued orders. Laptop computers that contain enemy intelligence appear throughout the campaign and may be collected.

However as foreshadowed by the scientist's warnings the commandos witness the weapon being fired and perish from a resulting tsunami, sparking a myth within the U.S. Army. In the present day, Privates Preston Marlowe, Terrence Sweetwater, George Haggard, and Sergeant Samuel Redford fight behind enemy lines in Russia in an attempt to secure a scalar weapon device. Despite evading Russian soldiers and completing mission successfully, the device is discovered to be a fake. Impressed with their previous activities, Army General Braidwood assigns them to the special operation of contacting Agent Aguire, much to the disappointment of Redford who had hoped to retire after the last mission.
The squad travels to Bolivia in search of the agent, and after many firefights they eventually save Aguirre. Aguirre sends the squad to get his intelligence detailing Aurora from a French satellite that can be controlled from a base in the Andes Mountains. Sweetwater crashes the satellite and the squad successfully defeat a Russian counterattack aimed at destroying it. Marlowe soon finds the data server and proceeds to go down the mountain during a blizzard while dodging Russian patrols, and is soon extracted by the others.

 Expansion Pack: Battlefield: Bad Company 2: Vietnam is an upcoming expansion pack for the game which takes place in the Vietnam War. It is scheduled for release in late 2010, and will only be available via download. In the expansion pack's debut trailer, two F-4 Phantoms and multiple Bell UH-1 Huey helicopters are flying towards a village engulfed in a battle, while Creedence Clearwater Revival's song Fortunate Son is heard on the radio. At the end of the trailer, radio broadcaster Hanoi Hannah famously says "They will give you a medal, G.I. ... but only after you are dead."The expansion pack will contain 4 new maps, 6 new vehicles, and 15 new weapons. It is also planned to include 49 contemporary music tracks which can be listened to via an in-game radio as well as new voice overs for both American and Vietnamese forces, based on authentic communication from the Vietnam war. 10 new Xbox achievements/PSN trophies will also be available to unlock.
